Demand for over-sized caskets hits all time high as aluminum reserves hit an all time low
The average american has gotten substantially heavier over the last 30 years and it's finally caught up with the casket industry.
The average casket is able to hold up to 350 lbs. Anything past that requires an extra large casket capable of holding up to 500 lbs. If you think these two options are enough, you'd be dead wrong.
The niche for over sized caskets has been steadily increasing. It's estimated that over 12,000 caskets capable of supporting 800 pounds were made in 2017 alone.
Cremation is not an option for these obese individuals. Aside from the size issue, there are also other problems that can occur during the cremation of a seriously obese individual. Larry Burns, a cremation technician explains, "Even if you were able to fit someone like that into an oven, the amount of fat they have is a fire hazard. Do you know what would happen if you were to expose 30 gallons of grease to an open fire?"
